The situation with Logan Paul and YouTube
I'm sure just about all of you have heard of the Logan Paul controversy. It was basically the first YouTube and international controversy of 2018, happening I think just three days after the new year. I made a video responding to it which I put below this but more things have come to my attention that I feel need to be discussed.
First, let's sum up what Logan Paul did wrong.
>Filming a dead body
>Acting extremely disrespectful in Japan
>Putting a fish and tentacle on a taxi
>Making jokes about eating cats
>Jumping on a persons moving vehicle
>Breaking a shops gameboy color and then bringing it back saying "Mucho Brokeno"
>Pulling his pants down and doing a split in the street
>Making a bad apology
>Hurting already frail foreign relations
>Haircut
These are most of the things he did, I go into detail about a lot of them in the video along with a personal Japanese friends response to it all, so here I will only go over things that have happened since then and what I think should happen next.
Firstly Logans fathers has stated he will keep vlogging, nothing wrong with that In my opinion, it is his only job after all. I respect if you think he should've stopped though.
Jake Paul was revealed to have use the N-word. It seems he just had to get some attention in all this mess.
Logan Paul was found hitting the town in Hollywood with his friends despite the drama still circulating from his video.
Youtube refused to cut ties and is trying to act like they did something in all of this when they did NOTHING until after. They made a post addressing it where they stated his video with the dead man was against their policies but they aren't the one who took down the video, LOGAN DID. They only made a response very recently despite how many days ago this fiasco started, and Matthew Patrick otherwise known as MatPat, creator of Game Theory, did a great job with a video responding to YouTubes response to this situation and being honest. He even included WHY YouTube will not drop Logan Paul BEFORE they claimed they weren't dropping him earlier today.
We do actually have to give YouTube credit for removing Logan from Google preferred and putting his YouTube red videos on hold. They also apparently removed him from season 4 of a YouTube series. This is good but they could've and in my opinion, should've done more things. I could go over more of what he said but I don't want to just echo him. I'd also recommend watch Gaijin Goombas video.
But most of what I'm trying to say is YouTube took way too long to respond to the situation and do anything. But another thing I'd like to say is it took much to for YouTube to respond to Logan Paul AT ALL.
His antics have been insulting to people around him and other YouTubers for most of his career, and he's been doing them for well over a YEAR with NO REPERCUSSIONS. Not only that, but he has been REWARDED. Not just getting into YouTube red, getting ads on YouTube, Getting Google preferred, but many other things that help with his revenue and exposure when he has, frankly, been a dick to EVERYONE AROUND HIM. Even his own FANS. It took a national incident for him to finally get any real repercussions and for people to finally begin to tell the truth about him.
But I bet a lot of you are thinking, "At least he finally got the repercussions he deserved", but as I've said I feel he didn't get enough consequences and this honestly may not have even slowed him down as his subscriber count has SKYROCKETED and his videos are getting way more views. On top of that he's coming back to do more vlogs soon! He got delayed consequences and light ones for things that affected a lot of people and have hurt foreign relations that were already bad! It was an INTERNATIONAL INCIDENT! But popularity has saved him and he's getting more subscribers and money! You see getting more subscribers gives him more money and getting more views, which he definitely has been, gets him more as well!
And yes, his original video was deleted but people are still watching his other monetized videos even more now!
Can you believe this? It is absolutely terrible! If an average person with no subscribers or media attention did that they would be outed from society and probably even arrested! But because he is a famous YouTuber this, and all the other things he's done before like pretending to be murdered in front of children and harassing his neighbors have given him little to no consequences compared to the perks he has received! He gets all this special treatment just because he's a popular YouTuber! It's completely unfair!
What do you all think of this problem? And really, do you consider it truly a problem? What can we do about it? What should we do about it. I think you should all think about it yourselves and form your opinions, then definitely do what you feel is right. I personally am going to try and help spread awareness of this and try to help it all change. And for now, YouTube, you need to address this. And actually do something about it. You have an obligation, as such a huge company, to give real consequences for these action and discourage it. I think It's honestly a responsibility.
And you, Logan Paul, better be careful about what you do and think about what it can do to others, including yourself. Everyone makes mistakes, but it's our duty to fix the ones we make.
